We asked Louise a few questions about New Zealand travel and her work in the Travel Industry in general. Read along to know what she had to say.

Where are you based?

I am currently based on the Gold Coast, Australia, though I previously lived in Auckland, New Zealand. It’s been wonderful to experience both regions.

How many years have you been working in the travel industry?

I have been working in the travel industry for 26 years now. It has been an incredibly rewarding journey, helping countless travellers create memorable experiences over the years.

Can you share a memorable experience or a challenging booking you successfully managed?

I had a couple on their honeymoon who were wildlife enthusiasts, so I created a bespoke itinerary that included several private experiences to view some of New Zealand’s wildlife. These included a private whale-watching flight with a marine biologist accompanying them, as well as a 2 ½ hour hosted Kiwi bird experience at the National Kiwi Hatchery in Rotorua, where they were able to sponsor and name a Kiwi chick.

What do you enjoy most about helping clients plan their trips?

I enjoy helping people plan their holidays to New Zealand, especially when I can tailor the trip to their interests and budget. There’s something really satisfying about knowing I’ve helped create those special memories for them.

Do you have a favourite New Zealand destination or travel experience that you recommend to travellers?

For me, it’s hard to pick just one place as so many spots in New Zealand are stunning – the landscapes are incredibly unique and diverse for such a small country. As a Kiwi, we often holidayed in Rotorua.

Rotorua is a fantastic destination for families, offering activities suitable for all ages. Within the city, you’ll discover geothermal wonders that showcase its unique volcanic heritage. Rotorua has been home to Māori people for nearly 700 years, and the area is steeped in Māori history and tradition.

How do you stay updated with travel trends and industry developments?

I subscribe to destination-specific newsletters (e.g., regional tourism offices’ monthly emails), which showcase both existing and new suppliers. I also attend travel conferences and trade shows, such as Trenz, and take advantage of online training and webinars.

What tips or advice do you have for travellers planning to visit New Zealand?

Book well in advance if travelling during the summer season, especially between late December and February. Don’t try to do everything. New Zealand may be a small country, but there’s so much to see and do, not to mention the incredible landscapes to explore across the two main islands.
