The TranzAlpine is one of the most popular experiences, but in winter it is barely recognisable, as a majestic metamorphosis transforms the landscape with snow-covered peaks, frozen lakes, icy rivers, frosty plains and freezing waterfalls. Winding along remote river banks, through steeply carved valleys, into mysterious tunnels, the TranzAlpine’s winter ascent into the Southern Alps is like a journey to a wintry Never Never Land. Depart Christchurch at 0815 and return back to Christchurch at 1831. Upon return to Christchurch Railway Station this evening you will make your own way back to your Christchurch hotel.
