It’s time to experience the breathtaking beauty of New Zealand on a scenic drive from Christchurch to Kaikoura. As you journey along the rugged coastline, you’ll be captivated by stunning ocean vistas, charming seaside villages, and the chance to spot majestic marine life. Check into your accommodation and enjoy some of the dining Kaikoura has on offer.
Spend an unforgettable day in Kaikoura, where the mountains meet the sea. Start with a thrilling whale-watching tour or swim with dolphins (optional cost). Explore the local culture with a visit to the Maori Leap Cave or indulge in fresh seafood at one of the waterfront restaurants. Nature and adventure await!
Embark on a scenic road trip from Kaikoura to Nelson, where the landscapes transform before your eyes. Wind through lush vineyards, traverse rugged mountain ranges, and follow coastal roads with stunning ocean views. This journey offers a picturesque taste of New Zealand’s diverse beauty, making every mile a memory.
Take a scenic drive through the coastal orchard and vineyards lining the highway from Nelson to Motueka and Kaiteriteri. Board a comfortable Vista Cruise to travel the length of the golden Abel Tasman coast from Kaiteriteri north to Tōtaranui, relaxing on the viewing decks and enjoying refreshments from the cafe.
From Tōtaranui, walk through mature native forest and along secluded beaches to the breathtaking expanse of Awaroa Inlet where you’ll reach Meadowbank Homestead – a faithful recreation of the Wilson family’s original home on the ‘finest site in the bay’.
Your walk today follows the coastal track through cool native forest and reaches golden sand beaches, perfect for swimming. Start with a relaxing breakfast overlooking Meadowbank’s gardens and the beautiful waters beyond, then choose how much walking you want to do – your guide will arrange boat transfers to suit your needs.
Wake up to golden light on the sands of Torrent Bay and perhaps a coffee on the deck before breakfast. Today’s walk follows the easiest section of the coastal track through to Marahau, with panoramic views across Tasman Bay to Nelson. This is a day rich in history, too, as your guide recounts stories of how major landmarks were named by early explorers.
Make your way back to your accommodation in Nelson, where you will spend your last night in town before moving onto your next location.
Today you will make the journey from Nelson to Punakaiki. As you arrive in Punakaiki, perhaps during the late afternoon, witness the famed Pancake Rocks and Blowholes in their dramatic glory. You may choose to explore the lush Truman Track or relax with a beachfront sunset picnic, making your arrival unforgettable.
The moment has come to experience the world-famous TranzAlpine scenic train journey through the Southern Alps, emerging back into Christchurch! On this fantastic escape, you will see epic vistas, soar on the edges of the Waimakariri River, traverse through the Great Divide, and experience ever-changing landscapes.
You have reached the final day of your journey, check out of you hotel and make your way to the airport to drop off your hire car.
